Scripps Family Practice Residency Program Wins Regional Award

Scripps Chula Vista residents focus on community needs

The Scripps Family Practice Residency Program at Scripps Memorial Hospital Chula Vista is the recipient of the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency Public Health Champion Award for the Southern Region.

The Public Health Champion Award recognizes the vital role of public and private collaborations in advancing optimal health and wellness of the diverse populations of San Diego County.

The Scripps Family Practice Residency Program is a community-based program in the South Bay. Emphasis is placed on care of the under served, primarily the Hispanic population on the San Diego/Mexico border region.

Residents in the program complete a month of community medicine rotation, giving them the opportunity to work side-by-side and with the core faculty. The rotation also gives a good overview of border health issues and the community resources available to the South Bay.

The award was presented at the County Board of Supervisors meeting recently during National Public Health Week. The name of annual recipients is placed on a permanent plaque displayed in the Health and Human Services Agency Health Services Complex.
