Chris Van Gorder Elected to American College of Healthcare Executives Board of Governors

Scripps Executives Receive Fellow Credential

Scripps Health President and CEO Chris Van Gorder was elected to serve on the Board of Governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), an international professional society of more than 30,000 healthcare executives.

Van Gorder took office at the Council of Regents Meeting during ACHE’s 50th Congress on Healthcare Leadership in New Orleans. He will serve a three-year term representing ACHE affiliates on ACHE’s Board of Governors, the authority that oversees ACHE operations and member services. Prior to being elected an ACHE Governor, he was appointed to ACHE’s Board of Governors in June 2006 as an interim Governor. Van Gorder is a member of the American Hospital Association Regional Board (Region 9) and immediate past chair of the Healthcare Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties.
In addition, three Scripps Health executives earned the Fellow credential of ACHE (FACHE), the highest status that a member of the college can reach. They are:

• Tony D’Amico, FACHE, administrative director at Scripps Green Hospital
• Gary Fybel, FACHE, chief executive of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla
• Tom Gammiere, FACHE, chief executive of Scripps Mercy Hospital.

Fellowship status is a special category of ACHE membership, recognizing individuals who have provided distinguished service in the health care field. The credentialing system is multi-faceted, including criteria related to academic preparation, healthcare management experience, tenure as an ACHE affiliate, passing the Board of Governors Examination in Healthcare Management, continuing education, references, and community and civic involvement.
