North Coast Women’s Care Joins Scripps Coastal Medical Center

Vista, Encinitas locations become 11th & 12th Scripps Coastal locations

Scripps Health announced today that North Coast Women’s Care is joining Scripps Coastal Medical Center. The transition between the two highly respected medical groups will be effective no later than Nov. 1, 2010.

With a long-standing reputation of 23 years in the community, the group of five health care practitioners, specializing in obstetrics, gynecology and fertility medicine will join Scripps Coastal Medical Group, the physician practice working within Scripps Coastal Medical Center. Scripps Health has acquired the assets of North Coast Women’s Care with two locations at 332 Santa Fe Drive, Encinitas, Calif., and 2067 W. Vista Way, Vista, Calif. The staff of 16 will be employed by Scripps Health.

“The addition of this well-established group to Scripps Coastal Medical Center strengthens and expands our patient services, adding obstetrics, gynecology and fertility specialties,” said Kevin Hirsch, MD, president of Scripps Coastal Medical Group. “Current patients of North Coast Women’s Care will experience minimal change and their personal physician will continue to coordinate their medical needs during this transition and beyond.”

The physicians and staff of North Coast Women’s Care have enjoyed strong relationships with Scripps Coastal and Scripps Health for more than 20 years. Drs. Douglas Fenton, Ross Langley, and Christine Brody, who specialize in obstetrics, gynecology and fertility, nurse practitioners Rumiko Harkness and Sandra Rodriguez, specializing in women’s health, and certified nurse midwife Erin Phillips will join the more than 100 Scripps Coastal physicians at 12 locations from Oceanside to Eastlake. These two new Scripps Coastal locations will continue to provide in-patient hospital care, including labor, delivery and surgical services at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas.

Scripps Coastal Medical Center has a long-standing reputation for excellence in family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics. This year, Scripps Coastal was ranked No. 1 by patients in overall health care and satisfaction with physicians, according to the California Collaborative Healthcare Reporting Initiative (CCHRI)* Patient Assessment Survey (PAS). In addition, Scripps Health was named by Thomson Reuters as one of America’s top 10 health systems based on quality, safety, efficiency and patient satisfaction; Scripps was the only California health system to receive this prestigious recognition in 2010.

“As we move to a new era in medicine with health care reform, North Coast Women’s Care physicians and patients will only benefit from our joining the Scripps Coastal Medical Group by gaining access to the entire Scripps Health network for optimum care,” said Dr. Douglas Fenton of North Coast Women’s Care.
