For the fifth consecutive year and the seventh time overall, Scripps Green Hospital has been named among the top 100 hospitals in the nation by the international business research firm Truven Health Analytics.
The 21st annual 100 Top Hospitals™ list released today by Truven identified the best hospitals in the United States based on their overall organizational performance, including patient clinical care measures and business efficiency. Scripps Green was recognized in the teaching hospitals category.
“This prestigious recognition underscores the consistency and effectiveness of the quality improvement efforts undertaken in recent years at Scripps Green and throughout the entire Scripps Health system,” said Robin Brown Jr., chief executive of Scripps Green. “Our horizontal management structure allows for the sharing of best practices among all five of the Scripps hospital campuses, and our management recruitment effort ensures that we have great leaders providing guidance throughout the organization.”
Scripps patients also benefit from the hospital’s nationally recognized programs for heart care and heart surgery, and a graduate medical education program built around patient-focused care and research.
The Truven 100 Top Hospitals™ study evaluated the performance of 2,803 short-term, acute-care, non-federal hospitals across the country. Truven researchers analyzed publicly available information from Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Hospital Compare website. Hospitals do not apply to participate in this study and do not pay to market this honor.
Truven researchers compared the hospitals by analyzing 10 measures: mortality medical complications, patient safety, average patient stay, expenses, profitability, patient satisfaction, adherence to clinical standards of care, post discharge mortality, and readmission rates for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia.
When compared with their peers, hospitals on the Truven list had better patient survival rates, fewer patient complications, were better at avoiding adverse patient safety events, had lower 30-day readmission and mortality rates, and were rated higher by patients.
