Dale James of the Scripps Proton Therapy Center helps put children and parents at ease with custom superhero masks
Dale James is a radiation therapist at the Scripps Proton Therapy Center who has found a special way to connect with pediatric patients. The San Marcos man takes ordinary masks worn during proton treatment and turns them into superhero and other popular cartoon character masks.
“The reactions have been amazing!,” James told the UT San Diego recently. “The children are surprised when they first see them, and their parents are happy when they see their children smiling. One parent told me she knew we were going to take amazing care of her child because of the lengths we were going to make her little one comfortable,” James told the UT for its One-on-One question-and-answer profiles series on notable local people.
