For the eighth time in a row, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla has received an “A” grade from The Leapfrog Group in its twice-a-year Hospital Safety Grades report, which was released today.
In fact, the hospital is the only one in San Diego County to have a record of straight “As” from Leapfrog for safety.
“This four-year run of straight A’s is a remarkable achievement and a direct result of the excellent care delivered by our physicians, nurses, technologists and other staff members,” said Gary Fybel, chief executive of Scripps La Jolla.
Developed under the guidance of a blue ribbon national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. The report is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
“It takes consistent, unwavering dedication to patients to achieve the highest standards of patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ safety grade recognizes hospitals for this accomplishment. We congratulate the clinicians, management and staff of Scripps La Jolla for showing the country what it means to put safety first.”
The Leapfrog grade is the latest of several national honors bestowed upon Scripps La Jolla in recent months. In August, U.S. News & World Report ranked the combined programs at Scripps La Jolla and nearby Scripps Green Hospital among the top 50 nationally in eight specialties. Earlier in the year, Truven Health Analytics named Scripps La Jolla one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation and Becker’s Hospital Review included Scripps La Jolla in its annual list of 100 Great Hospitals in America.
