Dr. Mel Kurtulus and Patients Discuss Robotic Surgery on KUSI News

Mel Kurtulus, MD, gynecologic surgeon with the Scripps Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery Program, was recently interviewed by KUSI News regarding the da Vinci Surgical System now in use at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. In his interview Dr. Kurtulus discussed the patient benefits of robot-assisted surgery, which include a faster recovery, a decreased risk of infection and less blood loss.

For the second part of the interview, KUSI News spoke with two patients of the Scripps Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery Program who discussed their personal experiences with the program and their progress after surgery. Both patients discussed a relatively pain-free procedure with minimal recovery time, as well as the importance of taking charge of your health and making empowered decisions.
