USA Today Cites Scripps’ Leadership in Gene Testing to Guide Treatment

USA Today chronicles the leadership of Scripps Health in offering genetic testing to its elective stent patients. The tests screen for the presence of gene variants that affect patients’ ability to respond to the blood thinner Plavix. The testing gives doctors vastly improved data that will lead to an individualized approach to each patient’s treatment. Initially, the tests are being offered to elective stent patients at Scripps Green Hospital, but may eventually be expanded to patients at other Scripps facilities. USA Today featured this story on the cover page of its Feb. 25, 2010 edition.
