The Savvy Patient - Clear, Timely Communication is Critical

In this week’s installment of The San Diego Union-Tribune’s “Savvy Patient” column, Scripps Health provides insight on healthy patient-doctor communication.


Clear communication between the patient and doctor is a critical part of making the delivery of health care as effective as possible. While most primary care physicians have similar training and education, their practice styles can differ greatly. When patients identify the three types of practice styles physician fall into including: paternalistic, negotiators, egalitarian it can clear lines for better communication between the two parties.
