Medi-Cal expansion, mental health patient loads are straining emergency rooms
Local emergency rooms are bursting at the seams with increased patient volumes from the recent expansion of Medi-Cal coverage under the federal health care reform law and the jump in mental health patients seeing care, Scripps Health President and CEO Chris Van Gorder wrote in a recent commentary published in the San Diego Union-Tribune editorial section.
He called on health care and community leaders to join together to find solutions to this worsening public health crisis.
