Hiking aided her healing process during cancer treatments

In a feature story in The San Diego Union-Tribune, Scripps home health nurse Patti McCarthy shares her journey through breast cancer treatments -- and how her passion of hiking played a key role in her successful recovery and return to nursing.

McCarthy, who is on a mission to hike the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail, trekked portions of it between her cancer treatments at Scripps. The Encinitas resident says her cancer experience has helped make her even more attentive and empathetic toward her patients.
