A recent NBC Nightly News story about the spread of Tyler’s Law from California, where it originated, to other states highlighted the role played by Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego in making fentanyl testing a normal part of urine drug screens done in California emergency rooms.


Scripps Mercy emergency medicine specialist Roneet Lev, MD, told the network that the testing requirement, which went into effect on Jan. 1, can be critical for determining how to care for patients who might have unknowingly taken the opioid.
