Inclusion Criteria

Patients must:

  • Be 18-80 years of age.
  • Have a diagnosis of pouchitis that is recurrent.
  • Have a history of proctocolectomy and construction of an IPAA for ulcerative colitis.
  • Be willing to stop antibiotic therapy and taper corticosteroid use.

Exclusion Criteria

Patients must not:

  • Be pregnant or breast feeding.
  • Have ongoing treatment with NSAID (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug)
  • Have an anastomotic or anal canal stricture which precludes endoscopic evaluation
  • Have a known diagnosis of primary sclerosing cholangitis.

Additional Info

Patients will receive the investigational medication or the placebo weekly for 13 weeks. Participation in the study is expected to last approximately 6 months.
