Scripps Clinic Ranks High for Delivering Quality Patient Care

Scripps Clinic and Scripps Coastal Consistently Rank Top 10 in the State

Patients rank Scripps Clinic No. 1 in the San Diego region and No. 2 in the state for overall health care, according to a 2011 report from the California Cooperative Healthcare Reporting Initiative (CCHRI). Scripps Coastal Medical Group ranked No. 3 in the San Diego region and No. 8 in the state.

For the past three years, Scripps Clinic and Scripps Coastal have ranked among the top three medical groups in San Diego. The scores are based on results of the annual Patient Assessment Survey (PAS), which asks people about the care and service they received from their health care provider.

“Quality is the hallmark of our Scripps Clinic Medical Group physicians,” said Robert Sarnoff, M.D., president of Scripps Clinic Medical Group. “This ranking by patients illustrates each doctor’s commitment to providing the highest quality of medical care to every patient at every visit.”

The CCHRI is a statewide collaborative of health plans, provider organizations and purchasers. The group conducts the PAS annually. The most recent results are based on 2010 data. The information may be used by physician groups for quality improvement, by consumers for physician selection and by health plans for determining quality-based payments.

The key performance domains assessed in the PAS include:

*Overall ratings of all health care

*Rating of primary care physician

*Rating of specialist and access to care

*Physician communication (doctor-patient interactions)

*Patient access to care (primary and specialty, non-urgent and urgent)

*Coordination of care

*Office staff

*Health promotion

“This ranking from our patients demonstrates a vote of confidence in our efforts to provide the highest level of service to the San Diego community,” said Kevin Hirsch, M.D., president of Scripps Coastal Medical Group. “We continue to keep our patients’ best interest top-of-mind, which is evident by our efforts to add more convenient locations to the Scripps Health family.”
