Three years ago, the lives of Lilly Grossman and her parents changed dramatically when researchers at the Scripps Translational Science Institute discovered the genetic causes of her mysterious and debilitating condition as part of the center’s IDIOM Study.
Now, the La Jolla teenager is a college freshman, planning for a future that her parents once thought she’d never have.
The Atlantic staff writer Ed Yong recently caught up with the Grossmans in an article that explains how the work at STSI has touched numerous other patients like Lilly.
