County consortium has extended life-saving resources

A recent San Diego Union-Tribune article featured staff members who care for the sickest of the sick COVID-19 patients at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.


These patients are connected to intensive life-support systems known as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation — or ECMO for short. Scripps Health and other regional health systems have greatly extended the reach of limited ECMO resources during the pandemic by working collaboratively through a consortium created last spring.
