Samir S. Makani, MD

Samir Makani, MD, specializes in interventional pulmonology with a specific focus on complex central airways disease, lung cancer, thoracic oncology and pleural diseases. He performs minimally invasive procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of lung and pleural diseases. He also has interest in benign disorders including tracheal stenosis, advanced procedural treatments for COPD and advanced biopsy techniques for interstitial lung disease.  

Dr. Makani has been in practice for 20 years. Dr. Makani and his team enjoy having a close relationship with his patients and derives great honor in being a part of his patient's journey to improvement.

In addition to his clinical expertise, he is the director of the Lung Cancer Screening program for Scripps Cancer Center. He is active in clinical research with trials. Dr. Makani also enjoys participating in research and development activities with industry to advance minimally-invasive biopsy techniques and approaches to therapy.

Outside of work, Dr. Makani enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports and hiking.
