Located just off I-5 and Genesee Avenue, is on the campus of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. Scripps Whitter Diabetes Institute provides screenings, education and support services to people with prediabetes, gestational diabetes, and type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Our services

Our diabetes services include:


  • One-on-one training on continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pumps
  • Customized health planning, including medical nutrition therapy and exercise strategies
  • Community programs, including peer support groups
  • Access to clinical trials
  • Multilingual educational handouts


The Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute continues to serve patients by providing video visits for diabetes self-management education, diabetes prevention, and nutrition consultations for a variety of health conditions. Video visits are covered by most health insurance with a physician referral. Call 858-678-7050 to learn more and to schedule an appointment.


We also offer diabetes education and training to professional audiences.

Information for patients and visitors

The Poole Building is one of several buildings on a busy medical campus. Below you’ll find tips to make your visit as seamless as possible.

Scripps Clinic La Jolla in the Poole Building is on the campus of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. Also known as the 9834 building, the Poole Building is located across from Parking Structure C (staff parking). The campus entrance is on Genesee Avenue, between I-5 and Campus Point Drive. Paid parking is available in several locations throughout the campus: 


  • Underground Parking Structure A, located beneath Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla (9888 building)
  • Parking Structures B, located next to XiMED Medical Center (9850 building)
  • Parking Structure D, connected by bridge to Anderson Medical Pavilion (9898 building)


Scripps charges for parking after 30 minutes. We also offer valet parking for a flat fee. Our rates are as follows: 


  • First 30 minutes: Free
  • 31 minutes to 4 hours: $6
  • 4 hours to all day: $12
  • Maximum per day: $12
  • Valet parking: $8


Valet service is located in the circular drive in front of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.


Self-parking for disabled visitors and clergy is free. Visitors with disabilities must present their parking placards to parking gate attendants. After valet hours, please visit the information desk. Clergy can receive validation from the hospital security office.


Parking fees must be paid using our self-pay kiosks. You can use any payment type (cash, debit card or credit card). Self-pay kiosks are conveniently located throughout the campus:


  • Outside Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla (9888 building), near the fountain 
  • Inside Parking Structure B, in the elevator lobby 
  • Inside Parking Structure D


If you prefer to pay with cash, an ATM is located on the lower level of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla (near the elevators).
