San Diego Magazine Profiles San Diego’s First Female Surgeon
San Diego Magazine recently profiled former Scripps physician Dr. Anita Figueredo. The profile outlines Dr. Figueredo’s remarkable life, which includes being the first female surgeon in San Diego — practicing at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, raising nine children and befriending Mother Teresa. The article will appear in the November issue of the magazine.
The story of Dr. Figueredo’s journey over the past 93 years is detailed in a recently published book by her daughter, Dr. Sarita Eastman, a Scripps pediatrician and wife of Dr. Brent Eastman, chief medical officer of Scripps Health. The book, “A Trail of Light: The Very Full Life of Dr. Anita Figueredo,” is available in Scripps La Jolla hospital gift shop, at local bookstores and on amazon.com.
