Scripps Available Through New Health Insurance Exchange
Blue Shield plans for individuals offer access to Scripps physicians and hospitals
Kelly Hartmann found herself in an unexpected bind.
Just days after undergoing spinal surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, the El Cajon woman received a cancellation notice from her health insurer who had decided to exit the California market rather than participate in the new federally mandated health insurance exchange.
With Hartmann facing more than a year of follow-up care, the news couldn’t have come at a worse time, according to a recent UT San Diego article about her case.
Fortunately, Hartmann will be able to purchase a new insurance plan in the Covered California exchange from Blue Shield that will let her keep her Scripps physicians and hospitals.
Hartmann isn’t alone. About 12,200 San Diego County residents face similar circumstances, according to the article.
