Report looks at efforts in San Diego area to move medical science to the patient bedside

Two researcher-physicians with Scripps Clinic were among several area experts featured in a San Diego Union-Tribune report on translational medicine, an expanding effort to translate scientific discoveries into patient treatments.


Melissa Houser, MD, is working in partnership with The Scripps Research Institute on a proposed clinical trial using induced pluripotent stem cells to halt or reverse the effects of Parkinson’s disease.


Eric Topol, MD, is director of the Scripps Translational Science Institute, which uses digital medicine (genomics and wireless sensor technology) to replace traditional one-size-fits-all medicine with precision health care tailored to the individual.
