Scripps Health has been recognized as one of the best heart care providers in the nation by Becker’s Hospital Review in the publication’s annual “100 Hospitals with Great Heart Programs” list.
Scripps was among 10 health systems in California that were included in the list. All of the hospitals cited by Becker’s have been singled out for cardiovascular excellence by reputable health care rating resources, such as U.S. News and World Report, Truven Health Analytics and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
“Once again, Scripps has been recognized as a leader in cardiology for our innovative care, expansive scope of services and unparalleled commitment to quality,” said Paul Teirstein, MD, Scripps Clinic chief of cardiology and director of interventional cardiology, and medical director of the Prebys Cardiovascular Institute. “This and other accolades we have received are the direct result of the dedication and skill of our physicians and hospital staff members.”
In recognizing Scripps, Becker’s editors noted the recent opening of Prebys Cardiovascular Institute on the campus of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. As the largest center on the West Coast for cardiovascular medicine, research and training, Prebys Cardiovascular Institute combines highly respected cardiovascular programs from throughout the Scripps system and Kaiser Permanente. For more than 30 years, Kaiser Permanente cardiologists have partnered with Scripps cardiovascular surgeons to care for Kaiser Permanente heart patients.
With 166 cardiovascular specialists, Scripps performs more heart procedures than any other heart care program in California. In 2014, Scripps physicians cared for more than 76,000 heart patients and performed 10,639 catheterization procedures, 3,626 electrophysiology procedures and 1,166 cardiovascular/thoracic surgeries.
In 2015, U.S. News ranked Scripps No. 19 in the nation for heart care, making Scripps the highest rated program in San Diego County.
