CBS Radio program recognizes Grace Cao for patient care

Grace Cao, a registered nurse at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas has been named the winner of the February CARE award, which recognizes compassionate nurses. The daughter of an elderly patient nominated Cao for the CBS Radio award, citing the love and care she provided to her mother during her hospitalization.

Representatives from KYXY 96.5 and Energy 103.7 and award sponsor Azuza Pacific University surprised Cao during her work break with the award. Cao's former patient, Barbara Chytraus, and her daughter, Rachel Workinger, surprised her also and joined in to thank her.

Workinger said all the nurses who cared for her mother were deserving of the recognition. "I truly believe they cared for her as they would've cared for their own mother!" she said in her nomination.
