Annual listing by Becker’s recognizes excellence, innovation

Becker’s Hospital Review has named Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla one of the 100 Great Hospitals in America for the fourth consecutive year in its list of innovative health care centers that provide high-quality patient care.

According to the health care industry trade publication, the hospitals included on the 2017 edition of its list are “well-known for … having a strong history of innovation, providing top-notch care to patients, leading clinical advancement with forward-thinking research or holding an irreplaceable spot in their communities.”

“We are honored to receive this recognition from Becker’s Hospital Review for the fourth year in a row,” said Gary G. Fybel, senior vice president and chief executive of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. “It really speaks to how hard everyone in our organization works each and every day to provide the highest level of care to our patients.”

To develop the 100 Great Hospitals in America list, Becker’s editors analyzed several health care ranking sources, including U.S. News and World Report, Truven Health Analytics, Healthgrades, the American Nurses Credentialing Center and The Leapfrog Group.

Latest national recognition

Earlier this year, Truven Health Analytics named Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation for the second consecutive year. Scripps La Jolla was recognized in the large community hospitals category and was the only health care facility in San Diego County to make the prestigious list.

Established in 1924 by Ellen Browning Scripps, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla offers 444 licensed beds and a wide range of clinical, surgical and specialty services.

In 2015, Scripps opened its Prebys Cardiovascular Institute at the Scripps La Jolla campus. The most advanced heart care center in San Diego County features world-class physicians, ground-breaking research and state-of-the-art technology. The tower houses two hybrid operating rooms, four cardiovascular operating rooms, 59 intensive care unit beds and 108 private inpatient rooms.

In 2016, the Barbey Family Emergency and Trauma Center opened on the campus with 51 private beds, four ambulance bays and the latest technology for treating everything from cuts and falls to major life-threatening injuries. And earlier last year, opened a six-story outpatient clinic, the Scripps Clinic John R. Anderson V Medical Pavilion, which includes more than 70 physicians practicing in 12 specialties including internal and family medicine, cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, general surgery, pulmonary medicine, neurology and integrative cardiology.
