Endocrinologist says Quincy's care will be studied in future

Athena Philis-Tsimikas, MD, an endocrinologist and corporate vice president of the Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute recently discussed the passing of Quincy, a koala with type 1 diabetes, with a medical news publication.


Dr. Tsimikas helped develop a care plan for Quincy that helped to manage his blood sugar levels with the use of a continuous glucose monitoring sensor.


Quincy died at the San Diego Zoo on Dec. 13 of pneumonia.
