September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and local news outlets spoke with Nikunj Patel, MD, about an emerging treatment called targeted theranostics. The two-step approach uses a radioactive drug that is infused in the bloodstream and binds only to specific receptors on cancer cells to first diagnose and then treat the disease, while sparing healthy cells. Dr. Patel is program director of oncologic imaging with Scripps Cancer Center and is a Scripps Clinic physician.
