A Look at the State of Healthcare Quality Measurement Programs

HealthLeaders recently spoke with several leading chief medical officers for an article about healthcare quality measurement programs. The story outlines the expansion of these programs by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services and others, and questions whether the increased reporting requirements have become too cumbersome and unfocused. 

Dr. Ghazala Sharieff, MD, MBA, suggested ways to improve quality measurement, such as retiring redundant quality measures and revising certain metrics so they more accurately reflect quality of care. Dr. Sharieff is corporate executive senior vice president and chief medical and operations officer for acute care at Scripps Health.
