Biography

Sanjum Samagh, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship-trained in sports medicine. He has a special interest in hip, knee and shoulder arthroscopic surgery in addition to shoulder replacement surgery. Dr. Samagh performs arthroscopic hip labral repair and labral reconstructions, hip tendon repairs and hip trochanteric bursectomies. In the knee and shoulder, his surgical work focuses on ACL and meniscus surgery, rotator cuff surgery and shoulder replacement.

Dr. Samagh’s goal of patient care is to get people back to their active, fulfilling lives they had before their orthopedic injury. He emphasizes non-operative management first including therapy, injections, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) prior to considering surgical treatment. Dr. Samagh believes minimally invasive surgery can have maximal benefit for the patient and he believes in the preservation of the injured joint as much as possible.

Dr. Samagh’s research interests are in the fields of hip and shoulder surgery. He has over 20 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts with presentations at national and international conferences. His research work was honored by the Western Orthopedic Association (WOA) with the Anzel Award.

It was Dr. Samagh’s privilege to serve as the assistant team orthopedic surgeon to the Chicago Cubs (MLB), Chicago Blackhawks (NHL), and the Northwestern Big 10 football team (NCAA) and he served as an orthopedic consultant to the NBA during the NBA Draft Combine.

Outside of work, Dr. Samagh and his wife enjoy exploring what San Diego has to offer, including hiking trails, the beach and trying new restaurants. He is a big college football fan and roots for his alumni teams, the Stanford Cardinal and the Northwestern Wildcats.
