Behnam Moein Jahromi, MD

Behnam Moein Jahromi, MD, FACP, known to his patients as Dr. Moein, is a gastroenterologist who provides comprehensive, compassionate care for people with a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions. He is especially interested in helping patients prevent and detect gastrointestinal cancers early, including colorectal, esophageal and gastric cancers, as well as caring for disorders of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon.

Dr. Moein believes that exceptional care begins with listening. He approaches every patient with the attention, compassion and respect he would want for a member of his own family. In recognition of his dedication to humanistic, patient-centered care, he received the Charles and Virginia Feld Award in 2019.

A particular focus of Dr. Moein’s clinical and research work is the gut microbiome and microbiome restoration therapies. Founder and current director of the Scripps Gastroenterology Biotherapeutic Program, which brings evidence-based microbiome therapies into specialized gastrointestinal care. Through this program, Scripps is among the few health systems in Southern California to offer fecal microbiota transplantation, expanding access to advanced microbiome-based treatment options.

Dr. Moein is also committed to educating and mentoring the next generation of physicians. He works closely with internal medicine residents and gastroenterology fellows, helping advance thoughtful, evidence-based patient care. His research has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals and presented at national and international scientific conferences. 

Outside of medicine, Dr. Moein enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, sculpting and supporting efforts that promote gastrointestinal cancer awareness and prevention.
