Union-Tribune Reports on Scripps' Leadership in Shoulder Replacement
New drill guides enable more precise placement of prosthetic joints
The San Diego Union-Tribune recently reported on a Scripps Clinic surgeon becoming the first in California to perform shoulder replacement surgery using an advanced computer modeling software program. Heinz Hoenecke, MD, uses the new planning software to practice each procedure on a computer model before surgery — and to create customized 3-D printed drill guides to optimize the placement of screws to anchor the new joint.
