September is thyroid cancer awareness month and KUSI-TV News recently interviewed Brendan Gaylis, MD of Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Gaylis shared an inspiring story about one of his patients, Annaliessa Wise, who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer shortly before learning she was pregnant with her first child. Annaliessa’s care team at Scripps MD Anderson kept her and her baby safe through delivery. After celebrating daughter Lillie’s first birthday this summer, Annaliessa received test results showing she is cancer-free.

Dr. Gaylis is director of the head and neck cancer program at Scripps MD Anderson and is a Scripps Clinic physician.
