AAOS honored Gregory Mundis, MD, for work with global pediatric non-profit

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) recently presented its 2026 Humanitarian Award to Scripps Clinic orthopedic surgeon Gregory Mundis, MD, in recognition of his years-long effort to provide life-saving care to children around the world who suffer from severe spinal deformities.

Through his volunteer service with the pediatric health care non-profit Global Spine Outreach (GSO) across multiple continents, Dr. Mundis has performed complex surgeries, led high-impact missions and helped build sustainable care by training local surgeons, according to AAOS.

Dr. Mundis, who sees patients locally at Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines, also serves as a board member of GSO and a co-director of the San Diego Spine Fellowship, which trains new spine surgeons.
