Review test results, schedule care and track your health

Key Takeaways

  • MyScripps allows patients to review after-visit summaries.
  • Preventive care reminders help patients stay on top of screenings.
  • Patients can schedule same-day appointments online.

Many Scripps patients already use MyScripps to check test results or schedule appointments. But the online patient portal offers many additional tools that can help you stay informed, communicate with your care team and manage your health in one convenient place.

Through MyScripps, you can review doctor visit summaries, send secure messages to your care team, track preventive care reminders, monitor trends in your health data and schedule future or same-day appointments — all from your computer or mobile device.

Exploring these features can help you better understand your health, prepare for appointments and stay connected with your care team.

“Patient portals like MyScripps make it easier for people to stay connected to their health care,” says David Wetherhold, MD, chief medical information officer for ambulatory care at Scripps Health. “When patients can review their information, message their care team and track results in one place, they often feel more informed and engaged in their care.”

Here are several helpful tools available in the MyScripps patient portal.

1. Health summaries at a glance

On the left side menu of your MyScripps patient portal, the My Record section includes helpful tools such as the Visits tab, where patients can find After Visit Summaries, and the Health Summary tab, which provides an overview of their medical record.

The After-Visit Summary lets patients review important information from recent or past appointments. It may include:

  • The reason for your visit
  • Diagnoses discussed during the appointment
  • Care instructions from your provider
  • Medications prescribed or updated
  • Recommended tests or follow-up care
  • Patient education materials

“After a visit, patients often have questions about their care plan or instructions,” Dr. Wetherhold says. “Reviewing an after-visit summary in the patient portal helps reinforce what was discussed and supports better follow-through with recommended care.”

The Health Summary provides a broader overview of your medical record, including:

  • Current health issues and condition summaries
  • Health goals and recommended actions
  • Medications
  • Test results
  • Immunizations

Together, these summaries help you review what happened during a visit while also keeping track of your overall health. The Share My Record feature on this page allows you to securely share your health information with friends and family, healthcare providers and more.

2. Use the Message Center to stay organized and connected

The Message Center can be found under Messages in the Communications section of the MyScripps patient portal. Patients can send secure messages to their care teams, but the Message Center also offers tools and features that help organize conversations and quickly locate important information.

Messages are organized by conversation, allowing you to review previous messages, replies and attachments in one place. You can also bookmark important conversations and search messages using keywords to quickly find what you’re looking for. Messages from providers across different Scripps locations where you’ve received care also appear in the same Message Center.

When starting a new message, MyScripps will prompt you to select what your message is about, such as new symptoms or medication questions. Some options may guide you to the appropriate tool instead. For example, requests for prescription refills or appointment scheduling will direct you to the correct feature in the portal.

You can include a subject, message and recipient and attach photos or documents to help explain your concern. In some situations, you may also have the option to start a video visit for more complex questions.

“Secure messaging allows patients to follow up with their care team and clarify instructions between visits,” Dr. Wetherhold says. “It helps keep communication organized while making sure important information becomes part of the medical record.”

3. Stay on track with preventive care reminders

Preventive care plays an important role in protecting long-term health. Regular screenings, vaccinations and wellness visits can help identify potential health concerns early, when they may be easier to treat.

MyScripps supports preventive care by providing personalized reminders based on your age, sex, medical history and care plan.

The Preventive Care feature, located in the My Record section of MyScripps, allows you to review recommended medical services and stay up to date on important preventive care. These may include:

  • Vaccinations
  • Annual wellness visits
  • Cancer screenings
  • Follow-up tests recommended by your provider

“Preventive care reminders help patients stay aware of screenings and services recommended for their age and health history,” Dr. Wetherhold says.

If you received a vaccination outside Scripps, you can send your provider a message with the immunization record attached so your medical record can be updated.

4. Track trends in test results and health data

Many patients appreciate being able to view test results in MyScripps as soon as they are available. But the portal can also help you track how your results change over time.

In the My Record section, Track My Health displays trend graphs for test results so you can compare current results with previous ones.

This feature can help you:

  • Monitor changes in important health indicators
  • Track progress related to chronic conditions
  • Better understand how treatments or lifestyle changes affect your health

“Seeing trends in test results can help patients better understand how their health is changing over time,” Dr. Wetherhold says.

Track My Health also lets you view and monitor your vital signs from past visits, including:

  • Blood pressure
  • Temperature
  • Pulse and respirations
  • Height and weight
  • Body mass index (BMI)

Tracking this information alongside your test results can help you better understand patterns in your health.

5. Schedule and manage appointments anytime

MyScripps makes it easier to schedule and manage health care visits without calling the office.

Care options can be found in the Find Care section of MyScripps and include On-Demand Video Visit, Schedule and Appointment, E-Visit and Symptom Checker.

These tools allow you to:

  • Schedule in-person or video visits with a primary care doctor or specialist
  • Access care on demand for certain non-emergency health concerns
  • Complete an online E-Visit for select conditions
  • Use the Symptom Checker to help determine the appropriate level of care

Using MyScripps to schedule visits — whether in person, by video or on demand — helps you access care quickly and keep all your appointments organized in one convenient place.

What is an On-Demand Video Visit?

MyScripps offers On-Demand Video Visits, which allow you to connect with the next available provider for non-urgent health concerns from your phone, tablet or computer.

On-Demand Video Visits are available to Scripps Clinic and Scripps Coastal Medical Center primary care patients, as well as through Scripps HealthExpress walk-in clinics These visits may be conducted by a primary care physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant, depending on availability.

To start a same-day visit, simply log in to MyScripps and select an On-Demand Video Visit. You’ll be matched with the next available provider, often within minutes, without needing to schedule an appointment ahead of time.

“Remember, On-Demand Video Visits are for non-urgent health concerns. If you are experiencing serious symptoms or think you may be having a medical emergency, call 911 immediately or go to the nearest emergency room,” Dr. Wetherhold says.

Video visits are often used for minor illnesses and injuries, follow-up questions, medication refills or routine care. During the visit, your provider can review your medical record, discuss symptoms, recommend treatment and send prescriptions to your pharmacy if needed.
