Scripps Cancer Center expert shares prevention tips

April is National Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month and Brendan Gaylis, MD, discussed prevention and early detection strategies with CBS 8 TV. Dr. Gaylis shared that cases of HPV-related oral cancers are on the rise nationally and emphasized the importance of HPV vaccines as a preventive measure.


People should also request mouth exams during routine doctor or dentist visits to help with early diagnosis. Dr. Gaylis is director of the head and neck cancer program at Scripps Cancer Center and is a Scripps Clinic physician.
