Blood test was recently approved by the FDA

Fouad Moawad, MD, appeared on Fox 5 News to discuss a new blood test recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration to screen for colorectal cancer. He explained how the blood test works and how it fits in with other screening options such as colonoscopy and stool-based tests.

Approximately one in three Americans eligible for colorectal cancer screening have not been tested as recommended and the convenience of blood tests may encourage previously untested people to get screened. Interested patients should confirm if the new test is covered by their insurance before requesting it from their doctor. Dr. Moawad is chief of gastroenterology at Scripps Clinic.
