As a neurohospitalist and medical director of the thrombectomy capable stroke center at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego, Robert Claycomb, MD, cares exclusively for hospitalized patients with acute or chronic neurological conditions. He specializes in caring for patients with acute stroke and preventing secondary stroke.
All of Dr. Claycomb’s patients are hospitalized with acute neurological conditions, some of which are devastating, and he is dedicated to treating them with empathy, care and compassion. He strives to help both patients and their families through challenging periods and tries to put himself in their situation to learn how best to help.
Dr. Claycomb has researched seizures and epileptogenesis (the process which an injured brain becomes susceptible to unprovoked seizures). He frequently lectures and teaches medical residents during hospital rounds.
When he is not caring for patients, Dr. Claycomb enjoys running, general fitness, hiking, grilling in the backyard, traveling (especially to Japan) and spending time with his wife and kids.
