Steven Romero, MD

Steven Romero, MD, is a general cardiologist with special expertise in valvular heart disease and echocardiography. He serves as director of procedural imaging at Scripps Clinic, where his work includes general cardiology care, interventional echocardiography and participation in research trials focused on minimally invasive structural heart interventions.

Dr. Romero completed his Navy career in 2019 before joining Scripps Clinic. He also educates cardiology fellows and has delivered academic lectures in the United States and internationally since 2009. His areas of interest include advanced cardiac imaging and the use of minimally invasive approaches to diagnose and treat structural heart conditions.

He is a clinical associate professor of medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography. He volunteers as medical director for the San Diego Society of Echocardiography and co-leader of the San Diego community chapter of the Christian Medical & Dental Association. In 2026, he was selected to serve on the steering committee for the American Society of Echocardiography’s Interventional Echocardiography Council.

Dr. Romero strives to care for each patient as he would want his own family to be treated: with advanced diagnostic and treatment technology, clinical expertise, kindness and compassion.

Outside of work, Dr. Romero enjoys spending time with his family, training for short triathlons and watching Football Club Barcelona.
