Biography
Tianyi (Tim) Wang, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine.
Dr. Wang’s clinical practice includes the management of knee, shoulder and elbow injuries using the most innovative arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques. He has particular interest in complex knee issues in active patients, including knee ligament injuries, meniscus tears, patellofemoral instability and articular cartilage preservation. Dr. Wang regularly offers second opinions for difficult to treat problems where other treatments have failed.
Dr. Wang’s practice philosophy is to provide compassionate and individualized treatment for each patient. During your consultation, he works to establish an accurate diagnosis and provide education so you can better understand your options.
Dr. Wang has a strong commitment to scientific research and has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He has presented his work at both national and international meetings and serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine and Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has received research awards from the Western Orthopaedic Association, California Orthopaedic Association, Northern California Orthopaedic Society, and was elected a Resident Leader by the American Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Wang currently serves as a faculty member in the San Diego Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship.
Dr. Wang has previously served as team physician for Laney and Merritt Colleges in Oakland, California and assisted in the care of the Golden State Warriors NBA team. Dr. Wang has previously served as an assistant team physician for the Brooklyn Nets NBA team and Iona College. Throughout his career, he has cared for countless collegiate, professional and Olympic-level athletes.
In his free time, Dr. Wang spends time with his wife and two young children and enjoys running, biking and cooking.
