Michael Worsey, MD, is a colon and rectal surgeon whose practice is restricted solely to this specialty. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer, diverticulitis and inflammatory bowel disease, and the office-based management of ano-rectal problems.
He was in private practice at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla until 2025, then joining Scripps Clinic Medical Group. Over the last 26 years he has treated many thousands of patients with a wide variety of ailments, ranging from advanced colon and rectal cancers to hemorrhoids and fissures. His philosophy is to provide the best possible care in a timely manner with compassion and understanding.
Dr. Worsey is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of London, The American College of Surgeons and The American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He has served as both chief of surgery and chief of the medical staff at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.
Dr. Worsey has written numerous book chapters on surgical topics, published almost 20 articles in peer reviewed journals and received a research grant from the American Heart Association during his training.
In his spare time, Dr. Worsey enjoys hiking with his wife in the Sierra and San Bernadino Mountains. He also travels internationally to watch his boyhood pastime of rugby whenever he can.
