Biography

A fellowship trained anesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist, James Modir, MD, treats diseases and conditions affecting the spine, nervous and musculoskeletal systems, including lumbar and cervical radiculopathy, musculoskeletal dysfunction, complex regional pain syndrome and neuropathic pain states.

Dr. Modir believes in an individualized, patient-centered model to medical decision making, in which a partnership of shared responsibility is developed between physician and patient. Treatment begins with a full medical history review, physical exam, and imaging for an accurate diagnosis and interventional management. He works to pinpoint the root cause of the pain using both fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided injections, which help to diagnose and manage these complex pain conditions.

He is an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, San Diego Department of Anesthesiology, where he enjoys instructing fellows and residents in the area of pain medicine. He also teaches ultrasound-guided interventions at national meetings, such as the American Society of Anesthesiology and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. In addition, he has been published in the area of pain medicine and ultrasound-guided injections.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Modir enjoys spending time with his family, mountain biking, alpine skiing, running and hiking.
