Adam Deising, DO

Adam Deising, DO, is a hepatologist and gastroenterologist with a specific interest in treating patients with acute and chronic liver disease. Dr. Deising is the medical director of liver transplant. He treats patients with viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, drug-induced liver injury and specific genetic liver disease such as Wilsons, alpha-1 anti-trypsin deficiency hemochromatosis, and benign and malignant liver masses. Dr. Deising also manages complications of cirrhosis and treats patients who require or have undergone liver transplantation for a variety of conditions. He has a specific interest in managing patients with autoimmune hepatitis, PBC, PSC and non-cirrhotic portal hypertension. He performs diagnostic and therapeutic upper endoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy. 

Dr. Deising believes in the holistic treatment approach, addressing physical, mental and emotional issues when managing his patients’ liver disease. He believes in open communication and will spend as much time as needed for a patient to fully understand their diagnosis and treatment plan. Dr. Deising strives to make the doctor-patient relationship a team effort and believes that each patient’s input into their care is vitally important. 

After spending 15 years as an active duty Navy physician, Dr. Deising joined Scripps as a transplant hepatologist in August 2020. He is currently a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, American Gastroenterology Association and serves on the medical advisory board for the Liver Coalition of San Diego. He enjoys being actively involved in the graduate medical training of gastroenterology and hepatology fellows and residents.

In his spare time, Dr. Deising enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons doing outdoor activities such as swimming, hiking, playing sports and enjoying the local favorites including the zoo and amusement parks.
