Scripps Physician Plays Leading Role in New Certification Group

National Board of Physicians and Surgeons born out of effort by cardiologist Paul Teirstein

Paul Teirstein  of Scripps Health receives the  2015 Master Clinical  Operator Award.

A recent San Diego Union-Tribune article featured efforts by Scripps Clinic cardiologist Paul Teirstein, MD, to revamp unpopular medical certification rules and launch the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons, which offers an alternative to the longstanding certification process.

Dr. Teirstein is chief of cardiology and director of interventional cardiology at Scripps Clinic, and medical director of the Prebys Cardiovascular Institute.
