Biography

Keshav R. Nayak, MD, is a nationally recognized structural and coronary interventional cardiologist at Scripps Mercy Hospital who brings leading-edge, minimally invasive heart care to patients in San Diego and beyond. As medical director of the Structural Heart Program, he specializes in advanced catheter-based treatments for valvular heart disease and coronary artery disease, helping patients access innovative therapies that can improve outcomes and recovery.

Dr. Nayak’s expertise includes transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve replacement (TMVR/TTVR), MitraClip, TriClip, Watchman, and ASD/PFO closure. He also performs complex percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), including treatment for STEMI, cardiogenic shock and high-risk PCI supported by Impella technology in select cases. In addition, he offers renal denervation for patients with uncontrolled resistant hypertension.

Since joining Scripps in 2018, Dr. Nayak has helped expand access to advanced cardiovascular care while also mentoring the next generation of physicians as associate director of the Internal Medicine Residency Teaching Program. His commitment to innovation extends beyond the catheterization lab through research focused on STEMI, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and medical device innovation, with findings published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Nayak is also deeply committed to humanitarian outreach, leading annual medical missions to Bangalore, India, and Nha Trang, Vietnam, where he provides interventional cardiology education and care for underserved communities.

Before joining Scripps, Dr. Nayak served more than 20 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a captain. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking Iron Mountain and meditating in Yosemite Valley.
