Biography

Tuan Mai, MD, is a highly skilled cardiac electrophysiologist with extensive expertise in diagnosing and treating complex heart rhythm disorders. He is the medical director of cardiac electrophysiology at Scripps Mercy Hospital and specializes in caring for patients with atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), ventricular tachycardia, sick sinus syndrome and heart block.


Dr. Mai is recognized for his advanced procedural skills in cardiac electrophysiology. He is experienced in the latest catheter ablation technologies, including pulsed field ablation (PFA), radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation, allowing him to offer tailored treatment options for a wide range of arrhythmias. He also has deep expertise in cardiac device implantation, including conduction system pacemakers, leadless pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) and subcutaneous ICDs. In addition, he performs left atrial appendage closure procedures for appropriate patients with atrial fibrillation who may be able to reduce or avoid long-term blood thinners.


In addition to his technical expertise, Dr. Mai is known for his compassionate, patient-centered approach to care. He believes that strong partnerships with patients lead to the best outcomes and is committed to explaining complex conditions and treatment options in clear, understandable language. His goal is to help each patient feel informed, confident and supported throughout their care.


A respected leader in his field, Dr. Mai is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society. He has received numerous honors, including recognition as a Top Doctor by the San Diego County Medical Society.


Dr. Mai has also contributed to the advancement of cardiac electrophysiology through peer-reviewed research publications and presentations at national scientific meetings. His research interests include cardiac resynchronization therapy, complex atrial arrhythmias and genetic cardiomyopathies.
