Scripps expert calls automated system a game changer

When Scripps Type 1 diabetes patient Kristy Castello runs the Rock N Roll San Diego Marathon, she will be pioneering a new, first-of-its-kind continuous glucose meter and insulin pump system that can operate with virtually no human intervention.

By eliminating the need for patients to constantly think about their blood sugar levels and plan for making insulin adjustments themselves, the system should make it easier to maintain a healthy blood sugar level for many Type 1 patients, Athena Philis-Tsimikas, MD, corporate vice president of the Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute told 10News.
