Biography
David Williams, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon specializing in all aspects of adult cardiothoracic surgery, with a particular interest in transcatheter valve interventions. He diagnoses and treats a wide range of complex conditions, including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic aneurysms and dissections, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and benign and malignant diseases of the lungs and esophagus.
Dr. Williams is committed to delivering highly skilled, patient-centered care grounded in open communication, accessibility and teamwork. He believes that heart and lung surgery is truly a collaborative effort, and that the best outcomes are achieved when every member of the care team plays an important role — from the referring physician and bedside nurse to the patient and their family. He strives to be available and approachable throughout the care journey, helping patients feel informed, supported and confident in their treatment.
He chose cardiothoracic surgery after recognizing early in his training the profound impact this field can have on patients’ lives. The combination of technical complexity, teamwork and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference drew him to the specialty.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Williams has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends and exploring all that San Diego has to offer.
