If you have trouble swallowing food or beverages — a condition called dysphagia — Scripps Health has a team of rehabilitation experts with the specialized training needed to treat your swallowing problem and potentially improve your quality of life.

Our team uses evidence-based techniques, including swallowing exercises, diet modifications and instrumental assessments like Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS/VFSS) or Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), to help you regain safe and effective swallowing function.

Scripps Health provides specialized care at several locations in San Diego for adults who have difficulty swallowing. We understand how an impairment of this basic function can pose considerable health risks, including malnutrition, dehydration and aspiration pneumonia.

The goal of therapy is to help people with dysphagia learn to swallow safely and effectively, so the simple act of eating or drinking doesn’t lead to discomfort or illness.
